Art. 2 TEU codifies the basic values that the EU and its Member States are required to respect and promote. While recent practice concentrate on the rule of law ad its corollaries, other values still wait to be discovered. Among them, the principles of media freedom and pluralism. This essay reflects on the importance of such values as essential elements of an healthy democracy, and adds some suggestions on how they should be protected in the legal order of the EU.
