MediaLaws is pleased to share the ESIL-supported conference “New Technologies and International Legal Accountability”, taking place on 22–23 October 2026 in Perugia, Italy, organised by the Department of Political Science of the University of Perugia with the support of the European Society of International Law (ESIL).

The conference will consider the challenges that new technologies pose for international legal accountability, with particular attention to cyber and AI-enabled activities in contexts ranging from peacetime to hybrid scenarios and armed conflict. It will discuss whether existing international legal frameworks are equipped to address these developments and examine the difficulties of attributing responsibility and responding effectively to new forms of technology-driven harm.

The programme is structured around four thematic panels: International Regulation, addressing the regulation of cyber and AI-enabled operations under international law; International Dispute Settlement, focusing on mechanisms for resolving disputes arising from malicious cyber operations; Individual Criminal Responsibility, examining accountability for cyber-enabled international crimes; and European Union Law, exploring the role and limits of EU law in addressing malicious cyber and AI-enabled activities.

The conference will be held at Palazzo dei Priori, Sala dei Notari, on 22 October, and at the Department of Political Science of the University of Perugia on 23 October. Attendance is free of charge, with registration required for both in-person and online participation.

For further information and registration details, please consult the ESIL conference page and the full conference programme.
