MediaLaws is pleased to share the Call for Papers for the Ius Commune Workshop Series on New Frontiers in EU Competition & Internal Market Law, taking place as part of the Ius Commune Conference in Leuven, Belgium, on 24–25 November 2026.

The workshop provides a forum for exchanging research on the closely connected fields of EU competition law and internal market law, welcoming contributions that also draw on regulation, economics, behavioural science and ethics.

The call invites submissions addressing two broad themes. The first concerns contemporary challenges for EU competition law, including digital and energy transitions, platform regulation, artificial intelligence, the Digital Markets Act (DMA), data protection, sustainability, geopolitical developments, State aid, foreign subsidies, innovation and enforcement. Contributions may also examine sector-specific issues in areas such as media, telecommunications, healthcare and financial services, as well as the relationship between competition law, media pluralism and democracy.

The second theme focuses on the evolution and resilience of EU internal market law. Suggested topics include the relationship between case law and legislation, free movement, digitalisation and platformisation, sustainability, security and geopolitical pressures, fundamental rights, the rule of law, disinformation, the Digital Services Act (DSA), AI regulation and the future of European agriculture and supply chains.

The call is open to researchers from Ius Commune partner and prospective partner institutions, as well as a limited number of participants from other institutions, with particular encouragement for doctoral candidates and early-career researchers. Expressions of interest from potential discussants are also welcome.

Interested researchers are invited to submit an abstract of no more than 300 words in English by 30 October 2026 to Laura Frederika Lalikova (l.f.lalikova@uu.nl) and Ruben Verdoodt (ruben.verdoodt@kuleuven.be). Accepted speakers will be asked to circulate an extended abstract or draft paper approximately two weeks before the workshop. Presenters from outside the participating institutions are subject to the applicable Ius Commune Conference fee of €250.

For further information and submission details, please consult the official Call for Papers or contact the organisers.
