MediaLaws is pleased to share the call for contributions for the “Symposium on Digital Inequality”, organised by the KU Leuven Digital Society Institute.
While digital technologies can foster inclusion by expanding access to healthcare, education, and other services, they can also deepen existing inequalities and create new forms of exclusion. Digital inequality encompasses disparities in access, skills, usage, and outcomes. It extends beyond access to digital devices and internet connectivity to include broader structural inequalities linked to infrastructure, governance, and socioeconomic conditions. As a result, digital inequality affects not only individuals but also markets and society more broadly.
Despite growing scholarship in this area, a more integrated and interdisciplinary understanding of the relationship between digital technologies and inequality is still needed.
The call invites mono-, inter-, and transdisciplinary contributions that address the topic broadly. Contributions should be based on sound research insights and develop a specific argument or insight. They can be based on published work or early research-driven ideas.
Submissions are welcome from authors across disciplines, sectors, and regions of the world, including researchers at all career stages and practitioners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
Submission deadline: 23rd October 2026
