MediaLaws is pleased to share the workshop “Building Youth Digital Futures: Regulation, Design and Governance“, taking place on 12 November 2026 at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB).
The workshop will explore how regulation and design shape children’s rights online, from the content that platforms recommend to young users to the use of AI in schools and toys. Giuseppe Abbamonte (European Commission) will open the workshop with a keynote on EU initiatives for children’s online protection and the Digital Fairness Agenda.
The programme includes four panels:
– Panel 1: Platform responsibility, age assurance and recommender systems
– Panel 2: Digital education and socio-technical governance
– Panel 3: AI products, harmful design and emerging forms of abuse
– Panel 4: Autonomy, identity and family governance
The workshop will close with a conversation between Michael Veale (UCL Faculty of Laws) and Leanda Barrington-Leach (5Rights Foundation) on The Future of Children’s Digital Rights: Beyond Age-Based Protection.
The event will run from 09:00 to 17:45 at the VUB Learning and Innovation Center, Room LIC.4.05.
