Osor: over 2700 official websites listed in ‘JoomlaGov’

By mid-July 2011, over 2700 official government and public organisation websites built using the Joomla! open source content management system (CMS) had been already registered in the JoomlaGov portal. New entries are added every Friday. Anyone can submit a website to the database via the Submit a site section, provided the proposed site meets the following two conditions:

  • It must be directly related to a government (national or multinational) institution
  • It was developed on any version of Joomla! CMS

The original concept behind the JoomlaGov portal started with Marcos Peebles, from a website development company who answered a question from Brian Teeman on a microblogging service. Mr. Teeman then posted a news article entitled “The world according to Joomla” on his website. Since then, a large post has been made on the official wiki website of Joomla! that  shows all government websites using Joomla!. The JoomlaGov portal was started in the aim “to portray this graphically rather than (with) a long list, so users get more of a visual idea on where the sites are concentrated.” Here to read more.
