MediaLaws is pleased to share the call for abstracts for the expert workshop “Editable World: Law, Policy, and Governance in ‘Phygital Realities’”, organised by the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition (5–6 November 2026). The workshop examines the legal and governance implications of environments increasingly shaped by real‑time computational rendering.
As spatial computing, XR, and AI‑enabled wearables begin to mediate perception and everyday interactions, public spaces are becoming phygital: hybrid environments where physical reality is continuously annotated, filtered, and personalised through digital layers. These developments raise significant questions for public law, privacy, democratic accountability, and the political economy of augmented environments.
The workshop welcomes short conceptual contributions, early‑stage research, and position papers addressing themes such as the governance of phygital public spaces, computational perception and representational harms, shared reality and democratic deliberation, and the economic incentives shaping perceptual infrastructures.
Abstracts should not exceed 500 words and should be accompanied by a short biography of no more than 150 words.
