The European Commission launches the European Democracy Action Plan

On December 3rd, the European Commission launched the European Democracy Action Plan, with the aim to regulate online political contents and to develop new sets of measures against online disinformation. Specifically, the European Commission will clarify political consulting firms’ liability and it will ensure users’ ability to distinguish between political and “genuine” advertising.

The European Commission will also introduce further measures to protect journalists properly from strategic lawsuits against public participation (SLAPPs). Moreover, the existing Code of Practice on Disinformation will be improved, while online platforms will be subjected to a massive monitoring program.
