The digital era has fundamentally reshaped the role of print in contemporary culture. Contrary to what some had anticipated, recent years have witnessed an explosion of  written content. The variety of media on which we write has also meant that we no longer necessarily attribute to written text a role different to spoken word, in terms of certification and registration, Moreover, the dialogue between the author and the reader has changed in pattern, speed and sometimes intensity.

The seminar will explore how the pace, shape and character of writing have been altered by digital tools and the world wide web. What are the implications of a public sphere in which readers talk back to authors in real time? Are we moving towards a post-print world or towards a print-plus world where, rather than disappearing, books and newspapers take on new supporting functions with respect to digital originals?

The seminar is part of the series of conferences “Pensiero Digitale” organized by Fondazione Corriere della Sera, Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, Fondazione Arnoldo e Alberto Mondadori and sponsored by Fondazione Cariplo and Regione Lombardia.
